Do not read if you have rape or abduction triggers. The book highlighted that not everyone takes a rape accusation seriously, especially when one of the young men involved was considered a hero. Adelaide returns to town, is abducted, and continually threatened. The men do not want her to tell anyone what they did to her and start early spreading lies to cover their crime. This story is about Adelaide fully coming to terms with the young men raping her. She has avoided deep emotional contacts because of the rape and is still in love with Noah. Noah was the brother of one of the men, which makes Adelaide reluctant to face her feelings for him. She believes running away is better than hurting his family and their golden image of their son.
